New Title IX Rules Move Forward

By Debbie Osgood and Linh T. Nguyen

The U.S. Department of Education is one step closer to issuing new Title IX rules for colleges and universities.  On November 4, 2019, the Department officially sent its proposed Title IX rules to the         Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the Office of Management and Budget for review. OIRA has until early February 2020 to approve the new rules, return the new rules to the Department or take no action and waive its right to review the rules. OIRA could also act more quickly or extend the 90-day review period upon request by the Secretary of Education for another 30 days.  After OIRA approval, the Department will publish the new rules in the Federal Register and set a specific implementation date.  Stay tuned for further updates!
