CMS Reduces Regulatory Burdens on Hospitals to Focus Efforts on COVID-19

On April 3, 2020 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated their list of blanket waivers for regulatory provisions to ease administrative burdens on providers and recognize the realities and limitations of care during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have summarized the regulations relating to hospitals and hospice care here for your reference and convenience. Note that while CMS can waive federal requirements, CMS cannot waive state requirements. In taking advantage of any of the waivers issued by CMS, hospitals should take care to ensure that they comply with state law and their state’s emergency preparedness or pandemic plan.
