Emily P. Bothfeld

Emily P. Bothfeld is a Partner in Hogan Marren Babbo & Rose, Ltd.’s Education Practice.  Ms. Bothfeld counsels educational entities in a variety of areas including civil rights compliance, board governance, student discipline, free speech and expression, campus safety, student disability rights, and data privacy and security.

Ms. Bothfeld performs extensive work with educational institutions to ensure compliance with Title IX and related laws in all aspects of education and employment, including recruitment, admissions, academic programs, financial assistance, athletics and extracurricular activities, and facilities access.  Emily has been instrumental in the development of policies, procedures, and training programs to assist educational institutions in complying with Title IX regulatory changes, and she dedicates a significant portion of her practice to advising Title IX Coordinators and administrators on Title IX compliance issues and best practices for processing Title IX reports and complaints.  In addition, Emily regularly defends educational entities in responding to complaints filed in court and with administrative agencies alleging violations of Title IX and other federal civil rights laws.

Before joining HMBR, Ms. Bothfeld practiced in a Chicago-based law firm representing Illinois higher education institutions and K-12 school districts in Title IX and student related matters.
